Barrowland Star.
Simple Minds.
An excerpt taken from ‘Walk between worlds’, Simple Minds find their latest album charting at number 3 in the UK album charts. I played keyboards on their 1991 album ‘Real Life’ and briefly experienced being a member of the band by performing with them at Wembley to celebrate the release of Nelson Mandela. 26 years later, I was delighted when they asked me to write a string arrangement for one of the tracks “Barrowland Star’. I pondered long and hard to get the right feeling into the arrangement (which we recorded at Abbey Road Studios) and could not resist writing and playing a CP70 piano part to go along with the orchestra. I loved the whole process which started all these years ago and finally found its expression in this song. Thank you Jim and Charlie for asking me to share in that trajectory.
